21st Austria weekly - Agrana, Vienna Stock Exchange, Andritz, GDP Austria (05/03/2021)

Agrana: Fruit, starch and sugar company Agrana processed record quantity of 322,000 metric tons of starch potatoes at the Gmünd site, which is not only a considerable increase compared to the prior year (276,000 metric tons), but also a third more than the average of the last five years. Agrana manufactures in Gmünd not only food-grade starches but also starches for technical applications such as those in the paper, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. The facility also processes organic potatoes to make organic starches, organic sweeteners and organic long-life potato products such as purées, potato dough mixes and baby food. In total, Agrana manufactures over 300 different starch products at its mill in Gmünd.
Production levels have remained high from Day 1 even during the corona pandemic. Demand has increased, particularly for packaged potato purée and dough.

Andritz: International technology Group Andritz has successfully started up the tissue production line delivered to Berli Jucker Cellox Ltd. for their mill in Prachinburi, Thailand.The machine has a design speed of 1,900 m/min and a paper width of 2.8 m.

Vienna Stock Exchange: The Vienna Stock Exchange records equity trading volumes of Euro 5.90 bn in February 2021. A monthly comparison with February 2020, which was already impacted by the start of the Corona crisis, shows a minus of 4% (Feb 2020: Euro 6.15 bin). OMV with Euro 995 mn, Erste Group with Euro 827 mn and Verbund with Euro 643 mn top the turnover ranking of Austrian shares.

GDP Austria: Austria's economic performance in the Corona year 2020 recorded the most striking decline since 1945 with a minus of 6.6%. GDP thus fell more sharply by 2.8 percentage points than in the year of the financial crisis 2009. At -5.7%, the decline in the 4th quarter of 2020 was smaller than recently feared. "The fact that Austria's economy was hit quite hard in a European comparison is in particular due to the strong decline in gross value added in accommodation and food service activities. Their share in Austria's GDP is more than three times larger than in Germany, for example", says Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.
