Borealis: Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), Adani Group, BASF SE and Borealis AG (a company of OMV group) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to engage in a joint feasibility study to further evaluate a collaboration for the establishment of a chemical complex in Mundra, Gujarat, India. This is the next step of BASF’s and Adani’s investment plans as announced in January 2019. With the inclusion of Adnoc and Borealis as potential partners, the parties are examining various structuring options for the chemical complex that will leverage the technical, financial and operational strengths of each company. The total investment is estimated to be up to USD 4 bn. The collaboration includes evaluating a joint world-scale propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant to produce propylene based on propane feedstock to be supplied by Adnoc. Propylene will be partially used as feedstock for a polypropylene (PP) complex, owned by Adnoc and Borealis, based on proprietary state-of-the-art Borealis Borstar® technology.

Porr: Austrian construction group Porr supports sustainable Viennese company Hut & Stiel. By cooperating with the Viennese start-up Hut & Stiel, PORR is taking a small, but important step towards zero waste. The coffee grounds of around 1,000 employees are collected at the Porr headquarters in Vienna. This means that more than seven tonnes of coffee grounds per year can be used for growing oyster mushrooms. The Hut & Stiel team regularly picks up the valuable product on a bicycle – completely emission-free of course. This means that around 150 kilograms of coffee grounds become available each week for mushroom production, resulting in a volume of over seven tonnes per year. The cellar of an old Viennese building in the 20th district then offers the perfect climatic conditions for mushroom cultivation. After just a few days, delicious oyster mushrooms sprout from the coffee grounds and can be resold to a wide variety of restaurants and markets. Together with Hut & Stiel, PORR is showing what urban agriculture can look like.
