"Special thanks to Deutsche Börse for the invitation to its traditional New Year’s Reception in Frankfurt. One of the evening’s highlights was the speech by Commissioner Günther Öttinger. I am very glad to hear that the European Commission eventually aligns with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz towards a more unified Europe, internally as well as externally towards our continental neighbours. I very much appreciated the individual meeting with CEO Dr. Theodor Weimer and Hauke Stars who allocated a significant timeslot for Wiener Börse. We are looking back to almost 20 years of fruitful cooperation and have a promising outlook for the years to come. As technology cooperation partners, Wiener Börse is the XETRA T7© representative within the Central and Eastern European region.

2017 was an intensive year with regards to regulation and technology. Never before have so many projects been implemented within one year. With the support of Deutsche Börse, Wiener Börse overhauled and modernised its trading platform, at the same time implementing the new regulatory requirements of MiFID II. Wiener Börse also rolled out trading services for Zagreb Stock Exchange and is now operating Deutsche Börse’s IT system for five markets within the region. In addition, Wiener Börse launched a new reporting service (Approved Publication Arrangement - TTRII) and is implementing a new surveillance system."

My intensive day in Frankfurt was rounded off by meetings with Torsten Ulrich, Managing Director of data provider WM, who contributes fundamentally to the Austrian market by providing master data and cooperating closely with Österreichische Kontrollbank (OeKB) in the field of Legal Identifiers (LEI) and Niels Tom, Representative of Deutsche Börse Board, who more than anyone else promotes the value of transparent and regulated markets in contrast to over-the counter (OTC) trading in the field of European regulation"
